General Dress and
Appearance
We recognize the standards held by our churches and the differences
among us. We expect students to honor
their parents and church in matters of dress and appearance.
The objectives of our dress code are to motivate self-discipline in
the areas of modesty, cleanliness, neatness, and acceptability. We don’t want this to become a legalistic
issue, so we are outlining the “ideal,” yet allowing some choices. The school encourages positive encouragement
by peers. We also want to avoid the
distraction of immodest clothing or styles, which call undue attention to the
individual. All clothing should be
clean and in good repair. The dress
code applies to all school functions. Exceptions,
(e.g. culottes for girls and knee-length shorts for boys), may be given for
particular events and should be announced in advance. Clothing is not be torn
or frayed. Holes in jeans are not
permissible. Tight fitting clothing of
any kind is not acceptable. Extremely
loose fitting or sagging clothing is unacceptable. Clothing should be no more than one size above normal. Pants are worn at the hips, not below, and
should not drag the ground. Shoes or sandals are to be worn at all times. Hair should be neatly groomed and of natural
hair colors. Boys' hair must not be
longer than the shirt collar. Body piercing and tattoos are not permitted. Any pre-existing tattoos must be covered up
before entering school each morning.
Jewelry is not permitted in any form. Clothing with inappropriate words
or sayings, music groups or emblems will not be allowed. Shirts with name brands written across them
are not permitted (including but not limited to Abercrombie, Hilfiger, Old
Navy, etc.) Shorts in any form are not permitted. Make-up and nail polish are permitted.
